Sulfur is a sticky, smelly molecule. It acts like fly paper and all the bad things in the body stick onto it, including free radicals and toxins like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drhyman.com\/blog\/conditions\/mercury-get-this-poison-out-of-your-body\/\">mercury<\/a>\u00a0and other heavy metals.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Normally glutathione is recycled in the body \u2014 except when the toxic load becomes too great. And that explains why we are in such trouble \u2026\u00a0\u00a0 In Dr. Hymans\u2019 practice, he tests the genes involved in glutathione metabolism. These are the genes involved in producing enzymes that allow the body to create and recycle glutathione in the body. These genes have many names, such as GSTM1, GSTP1 and more.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And here is what he has found:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearly all his very sick patients are missing this function. <\/strong>The one-third of our population that suffers from chronic disease is missing this essential gene. Humans evolved in a time before 80,000 toxic industrial chemicals found in today\u2019s environment were introduced and before electro-magnetic radiation was everywhere. It was before our skies, lakes, rivers and oceans were polluted.\u00a0 It was before our teeth were polluted with mercury and lead.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Almost half of the population now has a limited capacity to get<\/strong> <strong>rid of toxins<\/strong>.\u00a0 They are missing GSTMI function\u2014one of the most important genes needed in the process of creating and recycling glutathione in the body.\u00a0 One-third of our population that suffers from chronic disease is missing this essential gene and they descend into disease as a result.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Glutathione is critical because it recycles antioxidants.<\/strong>\u00a0 Free radicals on the body are passed around from vitamin C to vitamin E to lipoic acid and then finally to glutathione which \u2018cools\u2019 off free radicals and recycles other antioxidants. After this happens the body regenerates another protective glutathione molecule.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When the body has too much oxidative stress or too many toxins glutathione becomes depleted and the body can no longer protect itself from free radicals, infections or cancer, and it cannot get rid of toxins.
